About

The performance of the courts is commonly analysed and evaluated by the volume of cases and the “time of justice”. Although the courts are a complex organization, which guarantees a fundamental public service, the working conditions in which judicial professionals carry out their functions are rarely questioned or discussed within the scope of public policies on justice. An effective, agile, fair and balanced justice system depends not only on the legislative framework, judicial organization and existing resources, but also on the conditions in which its professionals carry out their functions in order to achieve the objectives of justice. Working conditions represent, in this context, a crucial variable to understand the performance of courts and the quality of justice provided to citizens.

This International Seminar is a moment of presentation of the final results of the project “Quality of Justice in Portugal! Impact of working conditions in the performance of judges and public prosecutors” project, contributing, simultaneously, through the sharing of international experiences and the involvement of professionals and institutional actors, to the discussion of the relevance of the topic for the improvement of justice in Portugal.

This event, promoted in a virtual format to allow easy access for court professionals and the general public, is organized in two sessions spread over one week
