Moisés Menezes


Biography

Moisés Santos de Menezes is a social worker and Adjunct Guest Professor in the Bachelor's Program in Social Work at the School of Education and Social Sciences (ESECS) of the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (IPP). He is also an Adjunct Guest Professor in the Bachelor's Program in Social Work and the Master's Program in Social Work - Social Risks and Local Development at the School of Education (ESE) of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (IPBeja). He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra (UC). He holds a Ph.D. in Social Work from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC/Rio, 2021), with an internationalization period as a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES, 2019-2021) at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, with specific diploma recognition from the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP). He also holds a Master's degree in Social Psychology from the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS, 2017), with diploma equivalency from ISCTE; a Specialization in Children's and Youth Rights from UFS (2015); and a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from José Augusto Vieira Faculty (FJAV, 2014), with diploma equivalency from ISCTE. Menezes conducts research on Gender, Sexuality, Sexual and Gender Diversity, LGBTQI+ populations, Violence and Hate Crimes, Justice and Public Safety, Human Rights, Public Policies, and Social Work. His doctoral thesis, titled "Violence Against Sexual and Gender Diversity in Sergipe: An Analysis of Official Records from the Public Security Secretariat between 2015 and 2018," was the first mapping of officially reported cases with homophobic and transphobic motivations in Brazil (Sergipe). He coordinated the Bachelor's Program in Social Work (Day and Evening Programs) at the School of Technology and Management of Lamego (ESTGL) at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV). He has experience in providing services to vulnerable groups and victims of hate crimes in both Brazil and Portugal. Currently, he is a member of the research group "Families, Violence, and Public Policies" in the Postgraduate Program in Social Work at PUC/Rio. During his postdoctoral studies, he was a member of the thematic line "Democracy, Justice, and Human Rights" at the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (CES/UC), as well as the Research Group on Sexualities (GPS-CES).
