Seminar
Fundamental rights and anti-racism: paths to social change
September 12, 2025, 14h30 (GMT+1)
Online event
The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union enshrines equality and the prohibition of all forms of discrimination as fundamental principles for building a fairer society. In the current context, marked by phenomena such as the rise of hate speech and the persistence of discriminatory practises, the fight against racism and xenophobia is becoming increasingly important.
This seminar offers a platform for critical reflection on the Charter’s role in fostering a more inclusive and egalitarian society. Through the sharing of experiences, good practises and discussion of specific cases, it seeks to raise awareness and empower participants on the importance of promoting fundamental rights, with a particular focus on combating all forms of racial and ethnic discrimination.
The initial talks by the speakers will be followed by a Q&A, with the aim of promoting joint, open, and participatory reflection.
This is the third event of the series “The Charter of Fundamental Rights in Action”, which is part of the project “FAIR - EU Charter of Fundamental Rights: Awareness raising and Instruments to promote a culture of Rights”, funded by the European Union. In Portugal, the project is being developed by the Permanent Observatory for Justice of the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. The project consortium includes organisations from nine European Union countries, coordinated by Fondazioni Giacomo Brodolini (Italy).
